40 credit hours by your 2 year license renewal date.
All 40 credits may be earned with distant learning (online/homestudy) courses.

Effective 8/1/2011: ABEC will limit online continuing education to a maximum of 25% of credits. 10 credits may be earned online per renewal period.

ALC
10 credit hours by your 1 year license renewal period.
All credits may be earned with distant learning (online/homestudy) courses.

Effective 8/1/2011: ABEC will limit online continuing education to a maximum of 25% of credits. Just 2.5 credits may be earned online per renewal period.

Cycle: Renewal every 2 years
Total Credit Requirement: 40 credits required; 10 may be earned with Psychoanalytic CE.

Special Requirements for Alabama Board of Examiners in Counseling

  • Requirement: Ethics, 6 credit hours

    It’s recommended that the word “Ethics” appears in the title of your ethics course.

    LPC
    A minimum of six (6) clock hours of continuing education per renewal period devoted to ethical concerns for practice, assessment, supervision, or research in counseling.

    ALC
    A minimum of three (2) clock hours of continuing education per renewal period devoted to ethical concerns for practice, assessment, supervision, or research in counseling.
